Roots Of Resilience: Saving Community Spaces

We’ve been reflecting a lot recently on space for culture and creativity. Our sister company THE INVISIBLE CIRCUS COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY parted ways from Artspace Lifespace when they wanted longer-term security than meanwhile community space could offer. Ironically in the same year that Artspace Lifespace celebrated 15 years of meanwhile space at #theislandbristol, the Invisible Circus received notice that their training facilities, which are essential to Bristol’s circus community, were to be redeveloped to provide student accommodation.

Bristol should be leading the way when it comes to safeguarding our precious community spaces. That’s why we, along with 15 other community organisations, have united to publish a manifesto that calls for urgent action to protect community spaces. ‘Roots of Resilience: Saving Community Spaces’ is a city-wide campaign calling for urgent action to protect and enhance Bristol’s shared spaces which currently face a multitude of existential threats. We aim to highlight how council decisions on these buildings must reflect their immense importance as the connecting heart of our neighbourhoods.
