Broadmead XP

In 2023 Artspace Lifespace continued on our mission to recycle vacant, under-used and problem properties into thriving creative resources and took on management of a retail unit in The Galleries, Broadmead, called Broadmead XP.

A line of Xbox arcade games

Broadmead XP houses the retro gaming emporium Playback Arcade a freeplay arcade run and owned by enthusiastic long-term gamers and friends, Mark and Nick. They love retro games and want to share their passion with as many people as possible. The plan is to ensure Playback Arcade continue operating while also providing space for community arts and gatherings.

Hoard Dungeons are also based at Broadmead XP. Hoard was started in 2021 by a group of Role-play enthusiasts looking to create a board gaming space where anyone and everyone can participate, learn and have fun. Role-playing games of many varieties (such as D&D, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu & Dread) are played along with dedicated board game nights, tables can also be booked for Wargaming.

Both Playback Arcade and Hoard provide a fun, social and safe space for people to play games. Between them they have 40 arcade machines, 15 consoles on CRTs, 3 pinball machines and over 100 board games! At Playback Arcade all games are set to freeplay for unlimited plays, with a one off admission fee, £9 for under 14’s and £11 for adults with options for private hire for parties. We’re proud to be supporting these organisations to continue adding to the rich culture of the Bristol gaming community.

A large room with art on the wall and a large table surrounded by chairs

Keep Art It are an organisation who have been based in The Galleries since December 2020. In March 2023 they moved to Broadmead XP and have been building a programme of community focused creative activities. The new venture from Keep Art It is ‘ART100 Gallery CIC’ which provides exhibition space for local artists to display and sell their work along with affordable workshop space for artists and communities. Artwork prices are under £100 each. They also host regular community arts groups and activities including resin pouring workshops.

Artspace Lifespace have secured a management agreement at Broadmead XP for another 3 years, or until The Galleries close, and we plan to build on the number of activities taking place inside. We believe that by working together and building trust we can create strong partnerships, support existing creative endeavors and create space for new projects.
