Find outfits that spark joy this London Fashion Week
With London Fashion Week 2026 taking place from the 19th to the 23rd February the fashionable folk at Sparks Bristol are on a quest to look catwalk fresh with a sustainable edge. Here’s the challenge, how to look haute couture without the humongous price tag and causing as little harm to the planet as possible?
Overall trends for Spring 2027 can be summed up as ‘resilient optimism’ incorporating playful accents with a shift towards sensory, fun-loving and sustainable fashion.
To achieve sustainable fashion greatness Sam from Sparks Fashion CIC recommends seeking out labels that champion quality and durability, the opposite of fast fashion brands, “Find well fitting garments made with long lasting natural fabrics that can be used as a base for a range of outfits. Accessorise with bold vintage finds to add splashes of colour and texture.”
As the clothing industry is responsible for 10% of global pollution, what you choose to buy matters. Fast fashion isn’t made to high standards of fit, is cheaply produced using questionable sources of labour and bad quality fabrics that do not wash well and so won’t stand the test of time. Ever changing trends result in an excess of produce with a sorry amount of fast fashion ending up unsold and in landfill. There’s a 3km sized pile of deadstock clothes (new clothes that were never bought in store) in the Atacama desert that can be seen from space!
Confident style takes time as do good clothes, don’t panic buy and, whenever possible, avoid buying low quality clothing. Well made clothes use generations worth of skill in tailoring and production and will continue to be enjoyed year after year. Once you find a brand that suits your style, you can seek it out in the secondhand clothing market as well as buying new. Make your style unique by mixing up trends from different eras and consider customising items for a truly individual look. Trends come and go so catch them as they come back round by shopping at vintage and second hand shops.
If you want all out glamour with an outfit that’s likely to be worn only once then seek out designer vintage wear that guarantees you’ll stand out from the crowd. You can rent specially curated items from sites such as HURR or seek out pre-loved clothing boutiques for pieces selected for quality and style. Vintage atelier Flaming Moth are a great local example of an independent retailer providing hand sourced vintage clothing for weddings and special events. Once the party’s over the clothes can be sold, donated or passed on.
Sparks Bristol champion a circular economy of clothing. If you’re buying new then remember that quality lasts and good clothes can continue to be enjoyed by being handed down or entering into the second hand fashion market. Meg from sustainable fashion stylist Clothemod encourages people to share the joy of good quality clothes, “Remember to let go of your clothing consciously; take wearable clothing to your local charity shop, go to a clothes swap or recycle unwearable clothing at scrap stores.” as well as extending the life clothes you love “repair your favourite pieces at the tailors and alter clothing that’s not quite right.”
If you’d like to learn more about repairing and customising clothes then Sparks’ in-house tailor Re-thrindle hold fun, inclusive workshops on a range of repair methods from weaving to sashiko.
This fashion week be stylish, be bold and have fun dressing up knowing that your fashion choices are supporting the environment.
