Looking Up, Looking Down

Rachelle Aaronson Photography 1995-2016

This exhibition follows a photographic journey starting with `looking up’ to manmade structures; the roofs of train stations, the Wembley Arc and the classic iconic beauty of working cranes. Then ‘looking down’ to the more ephemeral objects; the fragility of detritus drifting around on our city streets; cellophane tied with cotton; sandwich packets crushed and trodden underfoot; the perspective eventually developing into `involuntary` sculptures. Included in the exhibition is a creative response to the photographs from founder of Floriography, Vera Fallacy.

My experience is not of the flaneur, strolling, wandering in a seemingly aimless way, but more of being conscious of capturing `a moment` when walking, ‘looking down’ at the scattered debris, so often ignored by the passersby. I’m hoping the viewer will be inspired by my work when looking up and looking down, seeing the beauty and poetry in the unexpected moments around them.

I have created from the heart, responses to the photographs and exhibition of Rachelle Aaronsons in the medium of floral, natural, and recycled materials found by ‘ ‘Looking up, Looking down’. I have made small sculptures and displays to reflect how Rachelle’s work has made me feel, and think`.
